Our Community impact

As a mission-led company, we have a responsibility to be transparent about how we’re providing positive outcomes for our community and in the tech industry.

We're committed
to change

CodeOp was created to reduce gender disparity in tech.

We believe the primary reason for the gender disparity we see currently is due to the fact that young girls have not been socially encouraged and structurally supported to pursue STEM fields traditionally.

As a mission-led company, we aim to bridge this gap by bringing these underrepresented groups towards a field of study and career they may have always wanted to pursue.

our mission

We're here to provide the safe space, training, and resources needed to encourage, support,
and equip women+ with the skills they need to thrive in the tech industry.

The problem

Women are chronically underrepresented in tech worldwide and face a much larger barrier at being hired for technical entry-level positions. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), amongst member states roughly 30% of the tech labor force is women.

This number drops significantly when we consider the type of work women are predominantly involved in within the industry. In 2020, only 11% of software developers worldwide were women.

Our solution

Our approach to the gender disparity problem in tech is two-fold, working to bridge diversity, equity and inclusion, and technical talent development:

  • We help and support women+ worldwide to reskill and upskill in tech with training in full stack development, product management, and data science.
  • We work with organisations to help them tap into new talent pools, as well as to upskill and reskill their employees internally through custom-made technical training programmes.

Our objectives

In order to achieve our objectives, we use impact indicators to track the progress of the change we're making in our students' lives. Here's how we've chosen to measure and give visibility to that impact:

I had two challenges – time and money. As a working mother of three there were demands on my time and monthly budget. I had initially dabbled in free and paid online courses. Juggling work and family and finding time to study, it was very easy to fall behind.

I was worried as I started the CopeOp Product Manager Bootcamp in April, I wasn't sure that I would make it to the end. But after that first class, I was sold. The instructor made sure that she was available for one on one's to make sure that you could go over concepts that you were having issues with. I was also able to take what I was learning and apply it to my day to day work outside of class. CodeOp created an environment that went beyond teaching skills, fostered a sense of community and collaboration.

I've been 10 years unemployed (as a stay-at-home mom) and I wanted to come back to the tech industry, but my confidence levels were a bit low. I searched for academies focused on bringing women and other minorities into tech because I needed some encouragement, not just training. And I get the encouragement I needed and much more! The Data Analytics course makes me feel now super confident to restart my career.

Above and beyond. I was blown away at the amount and intensity of the material they teach you. Even with the part-time full-stack program, it was difficult, especially when juggling a full-time job. Despite the workload, I was in awe at how warm and welcoming the community was from day one.

If you start with zero coding experience like I did, you might feel a bit lost at first, but everything starts making sense in the project phase when building web applications. Moreover, CodeOp offers comprehensive career guidance vis-à-vis the tech industry's hiring process, which helps to understand better what the job market looks like and what to expect in your technical interview.
