- The partnership with Inicie will prepare thousands of students across LATAM for careers in technology via a hybrid learning environment.
- The courses will be available to high schools beginning August 2022 and will target students aged 15-18.
Barcelona, June 20, 2022 – CodeOp, the first international tech school specialised in technical training courses for women, transgender, and nonbinary individuals, continues its international expansion today with the announcement of its new partnership with Inicie—a leading edTech company working with educational institutions in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Colombia, among others—to bring coding courses focused on developing technical skills such as HTML and CSS to high schools across LATAM.
The programme will be delivered through CodeOp’s recently launched Grassroots initiative, in line with bringing more underrepresented, unemployed, and underserved groups to tech. A recent report by Statista puts the unemployment rate of 18 to 24 years olds in Brazil at almost 23%, while research on the future of work released in 2022 by Linkedin shows that 11 of the 25 most high demand jobs in Brazil require coding skills. The six-month programme will develop the theoretical and practical technical skills of high school students in addition to providing them with mentorship, working to broaden access to employment and better prepare them for careers both in and outside of the tech industry.
The launch of CodeOp and Inicie’s new partnership serves to bolster the recent reforms to the Common National Curriculum Base BNCC in Brazil, by developing a highly scalable programme that allows students from any background to learn the fundamentals of coding. Students will be able to learn in a hybrid format that integrates with Inicie’s learning management system to utilise various mediums including interactive classes, videos, hands-on coding exercises, and student mentorship.
“Our plan is to continue expanding our product portfolio, adapting to different needs and diverse communities in an inclusive and flexible way.” said CodeOp’s CEO & Founder, Katrina Walker.
Fernanda Alves, Director of Operations at Inicie said “These special programs developed by Inicie along with partners like CodeOp are part of the strategy to support schools offering learning journeys that reflect the recent needs of students and targeting the future we are aiming to build. By August, schools that already use the Inicie platform will be able to include in their curricula a course that reflects the educational guidelines on computing for basic education. By learning on a hybrid course, with lots of hands-on learning experiences, students will be able to create and code in HTML and CSS, an introductory level of the digital skills that are highly needed in the 21st century.”
This is the start of CodeOp’s expansion into Latin America, which they plan to continue in line with their Grassroots Initiative.
“Being able to scale coding education in an exciting tech ecosystem like Brazil is an exciting milestone for CodeOp,” said Katrina. “We would like to reinforce our mission and expand further access to this course by partnering with underrepresented groups’ associations in Latin America, especially those targeting gender inclusion.”
